Will China Use the Supply Chain as a Weapon Against the US?

Is the supply chain China’s secret weapon?

Over the last few years, the phrase “supply chain” has become one of increasing importance to everyone – from corporate leaders to government officials and to customers. Now, it’s a phrase that is becoming important to even military leaders.

According to Barron’s,

The United States worries that China will use its power in global supply chains as an additional weapon to advance its political and military might, a report released Wednesday showed.

The “Annual Threat Assessment” issued by the Director of National Intelligence said China is already using its supply chain dominance to force foreign companies and countries to transfer technologies and intellectual property to it.

Of course, this is something we warned about years ago on The OP, back when China specifically threatened to withhold all medical  exports from us because we talked badly about them during Covid.

The pandemic showed just how vulnerable our supply chains are.

The truth is that the United States has left itself incredibly vulnerable to supply chain manipulation by China.

More from Barron’s,

The disruptions of the Covid-19 pandemic showed the world the importance of supply chains — the way components of products make their ways from myriad sources around the world through various countries for preliminary and final assembly before products reach the market.

The pandemic demonstrated how the disruption of a single factory in China or elsewhere could halt the work of major industrial operations around the globe.

The “Annual Threat” report singled out China’s dominance in technology sectors including semiconductors, critical minerals, batteries, solar panels, and pharmaceuticals.

We also covered the looming semi-conductor crisis. In fact, The OP has been ahead of the mainstream with all these warnings.

Chinese domination of the pharmaceutical supply chain

American consumers, like most global consumers, are reliant on a pharmaceutical supply chain that has been almost entirely taken over by the Chinese.

As Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) pointed out in a report back in 2019, pre-COVID,

Chinese policymakers aim to make China’s domestic biotechnology industry the medicine cabinet of the world. To a large extent, they have already succeeded in achieving dominance in the lower end of the pharmaceutical and medical technology value chain. 80 percent of the active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) of drugs in the American market come from overseas, primarily from China and India. In older drugs with low profit margins, Chinese drugmakers have often taken over production entirely from Western companies. Chinese manufacturers are already the sole suppliers of many API and lower-end drugs.

Since COVID, this reliance on China for prescription drugs has only gotten worse – and as tensions escalate between the US and China, the possibility that the Chinese use this leverage to their advantage becomes more and more concerning:

Experts suggest that the growth of the US and China pharmaceutical trade poses a serious risk as the adversarial relationship could result in supply chain closures. It’s not unrealistic that pharmaceuticals could be used as a weapon in a trade war, as was suggested in past Chinese strategic talks. Additionally, the FDA has less oversight over Chinese facilities, which generates questions about the safety of foreign manufacturers.

Indeed, the number of medications and the amount of medical supplies that come straight from China pose an all-out national security crisis. How in the world did we let the very health of our nation lie in the hands of our enemies?

How do you protect against prescription drug shortages?

If our leaders won’t step up and break China’s stranglehold on prescription drugs, what can individuals do to stay safe and healthy? The solution is to be prepared. That’s where The Wellness Company comes in.

The Wellness Company and its great doctors – like Dr. Peter McCullough, Dr. Drew, Dr. Harvey Risch, and Dr. Jim Thorp – are regularly in the media fighting against the broken medical establishment.

Dr. Thorp, one of the nation’s leading critics of corrupt Big Pharma, believes that now – more than ever – people should be prepared for the next pandemic:

“I’ve strongly recommended “stockpiling” critical medications including antibiotics since the turn of the century. This has been an incredible investment as many friends, family, and patients have benefited. Now, in the winter of 2024, this recommendation is even more crucial.”

The Wellness Company and their doctors are medical professionals that you can trust and their new medical emergency kits are the gold standard when it comes to keeping you safe and healthy.

The ultimate safeguard for your health.

Be ready for the next crisis. This medical emergency kit contains an assortment of life-saving medications – including ivermectin, amoxicillin, and Z-pak. The Medical Emergency Kit includes a guidebook to aid in the safe use of these life-saving medications. I reviewed it previously and shared my experience getting it.

This kit is prescription-only – you can’t find it in any store or pharmacy. Simply fill out a short questionnaire after purchase, and a trusted Wellness Company doctor will consult with you and issue your prescription Medical Emergency Kit.

The Wellness Company Medical Emergency Kit includes:

  • Amoxicillin-Clavulanate (generic Augmentin) 875/125 mg – 28 tablets
  • Azithromycin (generic Z-Pak) 250 mg – 12 tablets
  • Doxycycline Hyclate 100 mg – 60 capsules
  • Metronidazole (generic Flagyl) 500 mg – 30 tablets
  • Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole (generic Bactrim) 800/160 mg – 28 tablets
  • Ivermectin 18mg – 7 compounded capsules
  • Fluconazole (generic Diflucan) 150 mg – 2 tablets
  • Ondansetron (generic Zofran) 4mg – 6 tablets
  • 1 Emergency Medication Guidebook written by the Chief Medical Board for safe use.

Will it get you through an entire ten-year apocalypse? No, of course not. But it’s enough of each medication to get you through one to three illnesses that require that med. It’s an advantage in a world that has been sorely short on advantages lately. I recommend a purchase for each member of your family if you can swing it. I got my first one then spaced out the purchases for my daughters by a month each.

 This is a real vulnerability.

Can you imagine the US if we had no antibiotics? The rampant infections? People dying from easily treatable conditions?

Yes, yes. I know some of you refuse to ever allow an antibiotic capsule to pass your lips. Good for you. I hope you never face an infection or illness that would take you out. So my advice is not for you, who refuse to use modern medicine. It’s for the folks who want to be realistically prepared for as many different emergencies as possible.

We don’t take medications often in my family, but there have been times we were so grateful for having them. Sometimes, it truly is a matter of life and death. I wouldn’t want to face a world without the ability to treat infections or serious bacterial illnesses if I had the option of being prepped for it.

I firmly believe that China is an existential threat to our country. They’ve been quietly, patiently, and insidiously playing a long game. And it won’t be too far in the future before their hand is revealed.

But what do you think? Is it likely, in your mind, that China might cut off supplies of essentials like antibiotics and other important medications? Are you prepped for that possibility? How do you think such a nightmare might unfold?

Let’s discuss it in the comments section.

  • They already have Daisy. Look at the trouble with the supply chain the Houthis are causing in the Persian Gulf and China is a backer of Iran so it plays into their hands. The pharmaceuticals are just one area , a major area nonetheless, that is already under their control.

  • Call me crazy but it’s stupid that we have EVER relied on an enemy to make our meds. I subscribed to The Wellness Company for the what ifs starting this year. I will not be happy to take any of the meds the kits comes supplied with but understand the necessity of the kit. I also desperately wanted the nebulizer for any upper respiratory problem we may face so I can use my colloidal silver even as a precautionary today.

I do feel a little more in control. I suppose we must also consider to other OTC meds too. I keep telling my hubby that he needs to renew his (occasional) inhaler just in case but he refuses to. Can’t help the helpless sometimes.

    • You’re very right, it’s very stupid to rely on an enemy for our health. Unless, it’s not stupidity rather than purposeful treasonous intent which appears to seem truer and truer by the day.

    • hi jennifo, got one of those two (hubs I mean), he poohpoos stockpiling, being prepared etc. I was raised to be prepared. he doesnt think anything will happen here in US, so doesnt see the need.during covid we were pretty well stocked because I do it, but he wont lay in supplies for repairs, vehicles, medicines, etc. heck, just got 2 kittens, he’s giving me a fit about feeding them as much as I do (theyre growing babies!~!!) so fed up with him, wish I could ditch him and just have the kittens…..he’ll be sorry when he cant get his diabetes meds, bp meds, or anything else….be the first one to bitch…..why didnt I (meaning me)….etc etc…..

      • That’s funny. Been there done that. I do sort of envy those not married that they don’t have to answer for spending on things we don’t agree with. I will ALWAYS invest in health & nutrition, hubby doesn’t always agree.

I always say pay now or pay later!!

  • Of course they will. I thankfully have natural alternatives on hand at all times. And extra supplies of the prescription meds I take. People are stupid to depend on prescriptions and not think of alternatives.

  • Daisy, I’ve put this out on OP articles before, but I think it needs to go here, too. Jennifo just briefly mentioned it in her comment.
Colloidal Silver. True Ionic, nano-particle colloidal silver is one of the greatest antibiotics there is. It is used in Medical Establishments all over the world as an antiseptic, and it’s used in every burn center in the world for burn patients to keep down infection. There are clinical studies in nearly every medical journal that tells of it’s power to kill bad bacteria. https://thesilveredge.com/articles has hundreds of articles on things that colloidal silver can be used for.
Back in 1929 or 30, when the Bureau of Chemistry became the Federal Drug Administration, there was a push by the pharmaceutical industry to take Colloidal Silver out of the minds of the people, because they were beginning to manufacture antibiotics, and they knew they could make a fortune by getting rid of the use of Silver Colloids. They tried through some very nefarious means to remove every book that had ever been written about the efficacy of Silver Colloids to kill bacteria.
IIRC, colloidal silver has won out every test against bacteria that has Corona Virus!
Alexander the Great transported water for his armies in Silver Urns, because the water was kept potable that way. When our ancestors came across the country in covered wagons, they hauled water in wooden barrels, strapped on the sides of the wagons. Inside each, they placed a pure silver coin. That pure silver coin, just vibrating and bouncing around in the bottom of that barrel kept the water from becoming stagnate.
People should check out using Colloidal Silver anytime they have an infection of any sort.
I could write a book on just how my family has been blessed by the efficacy of Colloidal Silver against bacteria.
Just wanted to get this information out so people might possibly do their own research about this wonderful natural antibiotic!
    Blessings,
    Old Duffer

    • One thing preppers can do is get silver-plated silverware. This will improve your health, and they can be used as barter items when things go very sideways. One should also collect “junk” (well-circulated, old) silver coins (US ones in the US), which will be one of the easiest things to re-establish as money when the time comes. Currently, I get my eggs at a silver dime a dozen.

    • Yes indeed. Just don’t google it because they will fear porn you. It’s probably not wise to ingest daily but I still forget to go to it when my stomach may hurt or it feels like I’m coming down with something. But when I do I notice about 20 minutes later, I feel better & it’s gone within a day.

I’ve been making a mouthwash with it with a few drops of ingestible essential oil peppermint & a few drops of ingestible frankensense. My gums were starting to recede slightly (allowing bacteria in) but the hygienist complimented me on the new growth closing up the gaps I had 6 months prior.

      The stuff truly is amazing.

There is also a book by Dr. Radu Scurtu titled “Survival MD” that grew out of his similar experience in Eastern Europe:

There is also the perspective that the US medical system has morphed into one producing some of the worst remedies in the world at some of the highest costs. One defense against that has been the medical tourism industry where many other countries are very friendly to Americans seeking affordable and proven medical remedies that have either been banned by Big Pharma’s iron control over federal regulation or made so expensive that sky-high medical bills are a leading cause of Americans’ fear of bankruptcy. Daisy has told of her successful treatment in Mexico. I have a friend in Panama who lives down the street from a doctor regularly using the Rife electronic method of curing cancer (discovered in the US in the early 1930s but run out of this country by Big Pharma).

Another example was President Reagan’s diagnosis of colon cancer while in his term of the US presidency. Nancy was well informed enough to fly him to Germany where one of their leading oncologists successfully treated him with methodology forbidden in the US. After being cured he returned to the US to complete his term in office and the US public never learned about it. Some people can afford bootleg medicine and some can’t … or don’t know about it.

  • China is cratering rapidly in any case, so I ver time the supply line impact will disappear. Wages there are nearly equal to our domestic wage, thier product quality is very b inferiof, thier pervasive corruption drives up all prices. Google “tofu dregs”. Thier new build buildings regularly crumble when still 1-3 years old. To be succinct: wake us up when any of us should actually care about any of this. Thanks.

    • We need to care NOW because its not just expensive substitutes for God’s safer and more effective remedies. In 2020, Daisy ran a list of over 70 things we depend on China for, everything from car parts to hoses. Time to run that list again, Daisy.

  • Of course it is not just Rx drugs.
Just read an article about the production of solar panels, predominately manufactured in China.
The Green Energy movement, which in reality is not really green at all, touted all kinds of good green jobs building green stuff here in the US.
In order to do that, the US would have to compete with vastly cheaper China made solar panels. That would require tariffs on China made solar panel imports, heavily subsidized taxpayer American made solar panels, or a mix of the two. Whichever, the end result is we end up paying higher costs for energy.
I am all about getting off the dependency of possible hostile foreign sources of just about anything.
The trade off is going to be higher costs. Something Americans are already struggling with as it is, least a open, hostile trade war prior to a real shooting war.
You tell that single mother of two, working two jobs to make ends meet her energy bill, her Rx drugs, and another half dozen imports from China are going to go up another 20%, see how she reacts.

    • “Single mother” is one of the atrocities the cabal has deliberately inflicted on women as part of their work to destroy Western civilization. To reverse and fix it, we need:
      –Stricter divorce laws, restoring marriage as a serious commitment, while allowing divorce when there is adultery or a threat to the life or health of one of the parties;
–“Pro-Life” activists need to stop letting “women’s” organizations claim to represent women’s rights as pro-choice. Abortion tears into a girl’s most female place, producing infections, depression, suicides, possibly breast cancer (too emotional now to find out), and doubling her risk of death in the year following an abortion. Women kept their legs closed before Roe V. Wade (I am old enough to remember) and expected to marry. Men are very good for a lot of things, including money.
–Men need to stand up for themselves and demand that young women return to moral character that is worthy of marriage. This includes Law that brings Justice.Today, it is dangerous for men to marry.
–Married people have better sex than fornication. Statistics indicate that people had a lot more sex during the Victorian Era than today.
–Welfare needs to be halved for unmarried women, and we need to make a law that requires “Income Maintenance Technicians” (gov welfare workers) to ensure that others contributions to welfare recipients be reduced no more than 50%, I was on welfare long ago, and I was taxed 110%–if I told the Truth. It is very evil to encourage lies. For widows, or if a father is in the home, income should be counted at just 25%, and the average payment should be double that for the products of fornication. If a soldier dies in battle, there should be a presumption that he had intended to marry the mother of his child, and it should be deemed a Common Law marriage, with widow’s rights.
–Young people should be encouraged to study the history of Matchmaking, to apprentice themselves to the few existing match-makers and get started helping singles find suitable matches. Bitches and jerks should be deemed ineligible, as they are not fit for marriage. Tuition should be charged for this apprenticeship.
–High schools and colleges should run courses in how to start and continue successful marriages, and statistics should be kept, for some will be so bad they do more harm than good, while others will be successful, and people need to know.

      • As a single mother, I don’t even know where to begin with your comment. I’m incredibly proud of the children I raised alone and I did it in the face of hateful comments like this one, who looked down on us without knowing the entire story.

The truth is, nobody is obligated to share the entire story. We are allowed to keep private matters private, and we often do so for the good of our children. Suffice it to say, many single moms are single for good reason.

Nobody says anything about fathers who leave, but they LOVE to jump on the single moms, who stay.

You’re certainly welcome to your opinion, and I often agree with your comments, but I think it’s vile to villainize women like you have in this post.

        • Daisy: you have shared enough of your situation that I didn’t recognize you in what Pat wrote. She wrote about what I recognize as irresponsible women, not someone in your situation. She made allowances for what you went through. You were responsible and did the best you could under the circumstances.

What I recognized is that she sees that society has become very hateful towards women in general, especially those caught at the bottom. She admitted that she was there once, and felt the hate, expressed by forcing her to lie just to survive.

          • What I read in that comment was a great deal of hate towards single mothers, but hey, if you say so. She also seems to espouse marriage at any cost, as well as denying much-needed support to single mothers by halving welfare and counting income at 25% of actual. Lots of hate, IMO.

          • The thing is, nobody knows my whole story. Or anybody else’s. And I have a platform that has allowed me to share what I want to of my own situation. What I share is the stuff that won’t hurt my children. Most women do not have such a platform.

When I was in the situation, dirt poor, dead broke, no child support, people looked down on me. They treated my children like trash, even though they have always been exceptionally well behaved. I remember once that my daughter was the only kid in the class not invited to a 3rd grade birthday party because she “came from a broken home.” During that same school year, she won the student citizen of the year for good behavior plus several academic awards so she was not a problem child.

I had no help from family, community, or anyone else. I was judged for the car I drove, for being single, for living in a bad neighborhood, and later for living in a good neighborhood.

I’m lucky that I was able to pull us out of serious poverty and put my kids through school. Not every woman is so fortunate and to the outside world, it’s so easy to judge them at a quick glance. I’ll give a single mom the benefit of the doubt every single time because I remember what it was like to feel trapped, broke, and scared.

I stand by what I said. Grouping single mothers together as a target like that and suggesting that people stay married regardless of issues is awful and short-sighted. Nobody knows what happens behind closed doors and there are many different kinds of abuse.

            • What LadyLifeGrows condemns is single motherhood by choice. Daisy Luther was not a single mother by choice. Nor many others. She excepted widows and those who had to leave because of abuse. But too many are single mothers by choice. (By the way, many single fathers have it rough too.) As such, I don’t find her comments anti-women in general, just anti-single parenthood by choice.

Single parenthood by choice is a type of abuse against the children.

Before condemning her, maybe we should ask her why she was on welfare once? Was she burned by marrying a cad who walked out on her? Or worse, did she have to leave because of abuse? Or was she a widow? Without knowing her side of the story, are we jumping to conclusions unfairly?

            • Daisy: You have a lot to be proud of. Your children, your wisdom, your website. Don’t let words get you down. WE ALL KNOW WHAT A GREAT PERSON YOU ARE! You’ve been a friend that many of us have never had the privilege to meet in person.

  • Of course China will use the supply chain as a weapon. Prepare accordingly, now. There are many articles on this website outlining herbal alternatives.

One of the things I thanked my mother for was divorcing the man who beat and financially abused her. I learned better lessons than allowing a man to treat me that way, including standing on my own two feet. Sheesh.

  • This is what happens when the almighty dollar owns our politicians. Ship jobs overseas (and pay less taxes too) leaving the US vulnerable. But on the upside, the rich will be scrambling for toilet paper right along with the rest of the masses.

  • Stock up on homeopathy and buy books to learn about it. It is easy to learn and treats things better than antibotics or drugs. We use it with our family and pets on a regular basis and have seen great benefits.

  • As a retired pharmacist, I can tell you that these problems with China and the drug supply have been going on for more than 16 years. In 2008, 150 Americans died from contaminated Heparin Sodium injection, and more than 300 were injured from strokes and other adverse cardiovascular events. The Heparin was made in China, and despite the fact that some in the FDA believed the contamination was deliberate, no inspection of Chinese pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities was ever carried out. Oddly enough, when India’s biggest generic manufacturer, Ranbaxy, got in trouble for unsafe and unclean conditions in their plant, the FDA sent someone to India and shut them down until it was cleaned up. I never heard that anyone died from a Ranbaxy product, but even if they did, that doesn’t explain why the FDA tiptoed around China. Additionally, every pharmacy has had problems accessing enough generic drugs and some brand names during this time period, yet no one ever explained why, nor was the problem ever resolved. Sometimes I spent between an hour and two hours a day trying to track down drugs to fill in our supply, despite having the top wholesaler in the country delivering to us. So IMHO, the only way to fix this is to bring the manufacturing back to the U.S. I’ll bet you won’t find anyone in the White House willing to explain why such a lucrative business decision has not been made.

  • “How in the world did we let the very health of our nation lie in the hands of our enemies?” Greed, simple as that.

  • Two things – I’m allergic to some of the drugs in that list, so buying them wouldn’t help me.

Also, antibiotics decrease in efficacy over time, so you would have to keep replacing these. You can’t just stockpile them and feel like you have it covered forever.

  • Is it likely, in your mind, that China might cut off supplies of essentials like antibiotics and other important medications? Yes, if there is a war over Taiwan any of these scenarios are plausible. Please try to stockpile prescription medications. Shalom y’all.

  • When China opende up for Western companies in the nineties, the stream of investment was immense and many people in the west lost their jobs….with the so called production also went the production processes, free to copy for the Chinese. And they did. When there was news about Chinese people spying in western countries it sounded dumb: all secrets were allready in China, brought on their doorstep by western companies, for high profit….
The quality went somewhere, best example for me was the Danner Pronghorn boots…USA made first type walked for years without a blister, second version “improved”from China were Sh*t, like what people with a handicap have. One example of many, and then there was comparison. Now there is prioduct A from China and Product B, the norm has been reset in what is good and what is less….we lose….

Nowadays the Chinese own most of the European oil rafinaries and metal works, and they ar shutting them down. We lose the capacitie to manufacture and the independency to produce fuel…we can pump up the raw stuff and buy the end product, all imbetween is being removed…..out politicians oversee this in their board of directors roles….corruption sold as a right and benefit…

So yes, the Chinese use the supply chain as a weapon….they have been given the chance by them creating of a tax free enterprise heaven…so westeren companies made more profit….for a time…..like giving a drunk the key to the liqour storem for safguarding for months on end and than taking the key away and charging double…triple….for the high profit of two to three decennia for some we lose centuries of research and invention….and more.

Don’t hate the Chinese, they are smarter than we were told by our news papers and government propaganda….paper money and brain surgery were normal in China 2000 years ago…our first military hospitals emerged after the US civil war….theirs had a 2000 plus years headstart…

Misinformation is this worlds biggest disease….makes people take the wrong choices and their mistakes burdon theose that come after…so blame the Whornalists and the film makers, the politicuians that direct the misinformation….we are a heard of brains led in all the wrong directions…..think for yourself in the circle around you….read that somewhere, it is the true wisdom.

Does Ragnar Benson still live by the way…? That name to me is similar to the word education….we need that and those people…

thx for this great site Daisy…

    • Dear Duchesne,
Most of us are aware the problem is not the Chinese people that are willing to work and thrive. The real problem is the thugs disguised as a “party” and the citizens still on the thinking that collectivism is the only way. The party leaders in all of those formerly “communist” countries are shareholders of huge companies and trusts everywhere.

  • You can worry about China if you want, but we have bigger problems here at home. The Democrats in the federal government want to do to independent trucking contractors what they have done to the independent contractors in California, which was a disaster for millions of people. If these leftist bureaucrats in the Department of Labor and Transportation get their way, our supply chain here in America is going to take a big hit.

  • As was pointed out in the article, and you mentioned Daisy, The weaponization of the supply chain from China is well under way. Also like you, I have been warning against depending on anything from China, no matter what the intermediate supplier happens to be.

I am on several medications that I cannot stock up on and am always looking for alternatives. I have had an essential oil, herb, mineral, and other homeopathic medical kit for years, but still do not have a good high-strength, safe, effective chronic severe pain management method.

One of the most important things about the Chinese Supply Chain weaponization is that when they cannot take over a specific market with complete products they do everything they can to get into the parts and resources chain for those products, effectively enabling them to freeze future production.

I still stand by my opinion that we will be in a full shooting war with China before the end of 2025.

    Just my opinion.
