It Looks Like Ukraine Will Join NATO. How Will Putin Respond?

Last weekend, a video began circulating on X (Twitter) that got little to no coverage in the MSM. (I know, you’re shocked.) In the clip, Jens Stoltenberg, the Secretary General of NATO, said something that could drive us rapidly off the cliff into WW3. He said, “Ukraine will join NATO.”

Watch it here:

This is quite a poke in the eye of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

President Putin has repeatedly warned against Ukraine being allowed to join the alliance. He said it back in February of 2022, when the war began.

“[T]here will be no winners,” he said, describing a hypothetical future in which Ukraine had joined NATO and then attempted to invade Russian-occupied Crimea, “and you will find yourself drawn into this conflict against your will. You will be fulfilling Article 5 in a heartbeat, even before you know it.”

“Do you realize that if Ukraine joins NATO and decides to take Crimea back through military means, the European countries will automatically get drawn into a military conflict with Russia?” Putin said. “Of course, NATO’s united potential and that of Russia are incomparable.”

Though the Kremlin’s English-language transcript has Putin using, somewhat ambiguously, the term “incomparable,” he also asserted that Russia “is one of the world’s leading nuclear powers and is superior to many of those countries in terms of the number of modern nuclear force components.”

Here’s some video footage of this press conference, with subtitles.

Article 5 of NATO’s founding treaty basically says that an attack on one NATO country is an attack on all NATO countries and is a pact of collective defense.

The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognized by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.

Russia again warned that Ukraine joining NATO would not be well-received in October of 2022.

“Kyiv is well aware that such a step would mean a guaranteed escalation to World War Three,” TASS quoted Alexander Venediktov, the deputy secretary of Russia’s Security Council, as saying.

The Russians have been quite clear. If this alliance is made, they will retaliate.

What is Russia’s protocol for using nuclear weapons?

Leaked Russian military documents have exposed that Russia’s threshold for a nuclear attack is lower than we’d previously been told. According to documents that have been seen and verified by the Financial Times:

Criteria for a potential nuclear response range from an enemy incursion on Russian territory to more specific triggers, such as the destruction of 20 percent of Russia’s strategic ballistic missile submarines…

…Russia’s tactical nuclear weapons, which can be delivered by land or sea-launched missiles or from aircraft, are designed for limited battlefield use in Europe and Asia, as opposed to the larger “strategic” weapons intended to target the US. Modern tactical warheads can still release significantly more energy than the weapons dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima in 1945…

…The exercises offer a rare insight into how Russia views its nuclear arsenal as a cornerstone of its defence policy — and how it trains forces to be able to carry out a nuclear first strike in some battlefield conditions.

In summary, Russia’s policy is to make the first strike and there are guidelines in place for how and when they would do this. The article is well worth a read.

Is NATO already involved in the fighting?

According to a Hungarian newspaper, Magyar Nemzet, the Russians believe that NATO military personnel are already involved in the conflict in Ukraine, disguising themselves as mercenaries.

In an interview with the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper, Major General Sergei Rudskoi, the Chief Operations Director of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff, spoke about the fact that NATO military personnel take part in the battles in Ukraine disguised as mercenaries, reports the English-language Pravda news portal.

NATO soldiers take part in hostilities disguised as mercenaries. They control operational and tactical missile air defense systems and multiple missile launch systems and are part of assault squads, Rudskoi stated. According to him, NATO officers directly shape the military operations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

During the cleaning of Avgyijivka, quite a few interesting details were revealed. In this case, we are dealing with corpses abandoned by Ukrainian armed forces, whose uniforms were sewn with American and Polish markings, Igor Kimakovskyi, adviser to the leader of the “Donetsk People’s Republic”, told TASSSZ.

Now, it’s very important to note that Pravda (which ironically means “truth” in Russian) has been accused of being a state-sponsored mouthpiece and a propaganda outlet for the Kremlin. They wouldn’t be the first government that drummed up another “reason” for people to fear and hate “the enemy.” (Looking at you, America.)

So, it’s possible that the information printed there is inaccurate. Magyar Nemzet is a conservative-leaning Hungarian newspaper.  When deciding whether you believe this report is accurate, take these two things into account.

If Ukraine will join NATO, what happens next?

If Ukraine joins NATO, Putin has already made it very clear that he won’t be pleased. And by “not pleased,” I mean he’s threatening to nuke someone. Or maybe even everyone.  The Russian government has a “first strike” policy in that they intend to be the aggressors in a large-scale war.

By allowing Ukraine into NATO, member states are inviting a larger global conflict.

And in a world that has seemed on the verge of the next huge war, that seems akin to throwing a match into a vat of gasoline.

This is something to watch very closely. Prepare for the possibility of a nuclear event. (Know that if you are not at Ground Zero, this is survivable, and no, it won’t turn the entire country into a nuclear winter wasteland like in that horrifying book The Road.) Here are some ways to prepare:

  • Read this article.
  • Watch this webinar.
  • Get enough Iosat for your entire family. If you need it, you’ll be glad you bought it. If you don’t, it’s not a ton of money but it’s a great deal of peace of mind. This one has same-day delivery from Amazon. This is a product that rapidly sells out every time there’s talk of nuclear war, and before it sells out, the price skyrockets. (Here’s how to use it after a nuclear emergency.)

It’s a real shame that we ordinary people get dragged into conflicts with people with whom we have no problems, by people who are protected by bunkers and armies. But it’s happened since the world began.

Prep for this like you would anything else – calmly and rationally.  We can only do what we can do. All of us are limited by something, be it money, location, space, or family members who are not on board.

The important thing is to be aware and proactive.

What do you think?

Do you think Ukraine will join NATO? Will Putin retaliate? If so, will it be with nuclear weapons? What do you expect to see happening with regard to this situation?

Let’s discuss it in the comments section.

  • They are rushing to get it done now, even if it starts WWIII, before Trump can stop it if he is re-elected. That’s why everything is ramping up and going so crazy right now, IMO. I don’t know if they will succeed in getting Ukraine into NATO, but if they do, yes, I expect Russia to retaliate and be once again labeled the bad guy for a war that was intentionally created after decades and decades of NATO breaking its promises to Russia. I don’t know that it will go as far as ICBMs, but I expect there will be some smaller nukes used to “prove a point”. I am not a Putin fan by any means, but this is all the fault of NATO & The US & UK. Just like the whole situation in Israel is the fault of the UK, regardless of what anyone’s political and supportive opinions are on the matter. Almost everywhere there is conflict, the US and/or the UK are behind it, and to be blamed.

  • The war began in 2014, not 2022, when the Soviets invaded Crimea and Dombas. There were countries who then recognized that the Soviet attack against Ukraine was an attack against Western Europe. Sweden, for example, published a pamphlet also in English about what to expect in an emergency, a pamphlet updated in 2022 https://rib.msb.se/filer/pdf/30307.pdf .

I just read a report by a person who had just spent time in Riga, Latvia, speaking with “Russians” living there said that they want nothing to do with Putin, whom they called “communists” and “soviets” but not “Russian”, that they will be fighting shoulder to shoulder with other Latvians against a soviet invasion. They expect a soviet invasion. That comment is found in response to an essay in https://jrnyquist.blog/2024/02/26/chinas-strategies-for-2024-an-interview-with-lude-media/ .

Whether Ukraine formally joins NATO is largely irrelevant. Countries in NATO are coming to the realization that they need to defend themselves against soviet attack, and are getting ready to send in troops “for their own defense against Putin’s aggression.”

    • Praise God, the Soviet Union ended about 1991. War-mongers and virtue signallers who think they prove themselves superior to anyone they condemn cannot face that fact. Worse, the US citizenship test says our most important freedom is voting (I disagree but that’s another matter) and Crimea voted to rejoin Russia by well over 90%, the most lopsided result I have ever seen. It is profoundest hypocrisy to deny them that vote. The vote was amazing but the continual referral to the result as Russia “invaded” Crimea astonishes me even more.
Extreme sinners like this and the Cabal, or even ordinary sinners, need to know what to do to reduce or eliminate their karma. The Jews have a saying for their holiest day of the year, a day of repentance: “But Repentance, prayer, and charity can avert the severe decree.” They add that fasting leads to repentance, the voice to heartfelt prayer, and money helps do deeds of kindness. Gematria on it shows that these things lead to a double portion of Life–physical and spiritual.

  • Yes Ukraine will join.
    Yes Russia will respond.
Yes American soldiers will be sent especially the ones with 50 IQ range to join the 500,000 already dead Ukrainian soldiers.
Yes Biden regime squashed the early peace talks. Obama helped create the color revolution and overthrew their government in 2014.
Putin was right- US lied about their bio weapon labs in Ukraine on their border until Victoria Nuland admitted it. We now know Ukraine bombed the Donbas region every day multiple times until Putin reacted.
So Putin is the only bad guy? I think not.

    • Sharon: you need to get the whole picture.

The CIA “color revolution” was a failure. The CIA wanted a corrupt government that would continue to allow corrupt companies in Ukraine to continue to pay off the Biden crime family on behalf of Putin. Instead, the Ukrainian government is working to put those crooks behind bars.

As for the Dombas, those were Russian troops, not Ukrainians. That was part of the Russian 2014 invasion.

The problem we have is that the CIA and other alphabet agencies in “our government” are thoroughly infiltrated by the KGB. As such, they are rogue agencies often doing things that harm the U.S. If we want to talk about the “bad guys”, we need to include many in the top levels of government, including presidents as traitors. And we can’t trust the MSM to give us the truth.

      • Hmm… RO has an interesting and provocative pov on the causes of the current conflict. Too bad his insistence on using outdated terms (soviet, KGB etc) undermines his argument. Trolls do better!

    • I agree with but not so sure Ukraine will be allowed to join NATO. It does seem, however, that our “leaders” want war, despicable criminals that they are.

  • First … a little history about Russia’s connection with Ukraine. In the late 1700s Russia under Catherine the Great purchased Ukraine from the old and collapsing Ottoman Empire. But Russia didn’t have the people to work Ukraine’s largely bare farm lands and so invited people from multiple countries to come, make Ukraine their home, and farm that land. Even some of my ancestors who were camped out in Poland accepted Russia’s invitation and moved to Ukraine on condition they would be exempt from any Russia army draft. That worked well until a new Russian czar took office in 1872 and decided that exemption had outlived its usefulness whereupon my ancestors immediately began looking for another country and by that same fall had joined three ships full of those who could afford to leave Ukraine. Those ships arrived in New York city from which my people took trains to the US midwest. This was generations before Stalin’s holodomor (mass starvation) of the early 1930s that wiped out much of the farming communities in Ukraine who were descendants of those who couldn’t afford to flee in 1872.

Skipping forward to our era …this 18::32 minute video hosted on Rumble is about the secret CIA war from inside Ukraine against Russia for the last 10 years:

    • Lewis: you left out that Ukraine was recognized as an independent country in 1918, backed up by the Versailles Treaty of 1919. But Ukrainian nationalism and its present flag predate that. However, the Soviets broke their treaty (which treaty have the Soviets not broken?) with Ukraine, invaded and annexed Ukraine into the Soviet Union in 1922.

As I mentioned above, the CIA is a rogue agency, heavily infiltrated and influenced by the KGB. People like Lew Rockwell and myself are thoroughly disgusted with what the CIA does, but we need to be careful not to run the “opposite” direction, right into Putin’s arms. Putin is still a lying communist, not what he pretends to be.

  • I smell a false flag coming. Most likely against us here in the USA.

I’m going to blow the dust off my Jericho season 1 dvd’s and binge on fresh smoked bacon and homemade bratwurst today. Until the real FAFO moment happens, these issues are just too big and complex to sort out.

    • That series had such potential.
But it was like someone had a really good idea and premise and then they got some JV writers, cheaper, to write out the screen plays who were clearly out of their element when it came to disaster scenarios.

      • …kind of like “Leave the world behind”. Looks like the Obamas should leave scriptwriting to the experts…

  • Thanks to translate.google.com …. here is an English translation of the above German language paragraph (with one typo preserved):

“I can only warn against Ukraine joining NATO. Because that would be the beginning of the end of humanity. The fact is that the NAO-led countries do not want peace with Russia (a geostrategically important country.) It is also a fact that Russia will not wait to see what the West has in mind. And there is another fact. Russia is no longer the Soviet Union. It is based on the same basic pillars as the West. So it’s not just nuclear powers that face each other, but also capital interests. And to conclude, I predict, There will be no winner, but the loser will be the peoples. They are the only ones who want peace for an internal interest. But they also have to do something against these warmongers. And best of all, they do it together!”

    –Lewis

  • I grew up during the Cold War.
I remember the 1983 made for TV movie, The Day After.
After the fall of the Soviet Union, did not think we would see the possibility of WWIII in my lifetime.
    Here we are.
    Boy is this dumb.
Do I like Putin? No. He is a thug. But as LM mentions above, foreign policy experts have said years even decades ago if NATO expanded Eastward, where we are today is exactly what would happen.
The question I have is who is going to fight this war? With our falling recruitment numbers, obese military, woke military, depleting our munitions, are we going to be able to field a real fighting force?
It has gotten so bad, the Army War College wrote an essay saying the all volunteer fighting force may have outlived its usefulness and we have to go back to a partial conscription model, aka bring back the draft. Yeah, that is going to go well.
And this being a real force on force against a nuclear power, no one wins that war.
Dont leave out the possibility of cyber attacks against our infrastructure, other actors taking advantage of the situation, like Iran, NK, China.

    • Here in Europe conscription is being reissued, so our children may get shot to bits for the glory of the WEF.
Defending ones own country is no longer the issue for conscription, but flesh to be turned into minced meat because THEY said so….

They is a bunch of total shitbags called WEF Young Leaders, and this year things will go to the edge i believe, as no normal sane person is going to take their shit much longer. Everywhere in Europe revolution is brewing, and in Brussels there is an ongoing siege between WEF forces called police and farmers but you will not read it in the papers or see it in the news……fighting, smoke granades and such….
In Berlin there are gang wars going and police running and in France there are small civil wars….but all is quiet on the MSM news front….

Here in the Netherlands revolution is on the verge of bursting out, the only thing that holds back the violence is the hope of those elected forming of a people oriented government, again this is sabotaged by WEF people.

The decline of Eyurope is a WEF powergrab, but the power will not be what they think they will get.

Also, to make madness complete, the EU wants to ban repairs on cars older than 15 years….make it a crime if you do….that is the madness we live in…

      • Duchesne I have seen some reporting of the farmers strike in Brussels but you really have to dig for it.
I have also read a few articles about how the WEF, establishment, the elites plans are not going as they thought they would. The climate change narrative is failing, the EV narrative is failing, no one except the elites seem interested in going to war.
As some have noted, 2024 is a big year as there are many elections going on across the world.

        • Not elites. Parasites. The parasite class is what they are and calling them elite eludes to power they don’t have unless we are brainwashed and demoralized into believing so. The same with politicians being referred to as leaders or officials rather than public servant. The same with the term democracy. They have programmed people into using terms that change the narrative and we need to reprogram our minds in order to save our republic!

      • Who or what is the WEF? Is not the answer found in a bust in Klaus Schwab’s office? It is a bust of Lenin. Why would he have a bust of Lenin, if that is not an indication that he is a communist, allied with Putin and Xi? Look at the things he advocates and his actions, do they not show his communism?

Communism and Fascism are two sides of the same coin—both want total control of people, even of their thoughts. Private farms are the bedrock of independence, which is why private farms are not allowed. China skirts the issue by allowing sharecropping. Russia still has communal farms. Private farms support the development of small business, either directly by sponsoring them, or indirectly by using their services. Why do you think that the WEF is interfering with farming? But corrupt mega-corporations allied to government (crony-capitalism) is allowed, because they can be controlled. Look at what’s happening in China.

“You will own nothing and be happy” is a lie, because it goes against human nature. It is the lie that holds back both communist and WEF economies. But the “elites” push it because they think it will make them happy.

    • Who will fight our next war? Our veterans and hunters. Many will be killed in battle. 1stMarineJarhead, you may think of yourself as retired. But when the enemy is at the gates, as what happened in Ukraine during Putin’s Blitzkrieg, even civilians who have never been in the military will grab their rifles and shoot. You too.

As for “the fall of the Soviet Union” we’ve been played for fools. The communists merely went underground and pretended to have reformed. Putin is a communist. He is still working for world domination. And he will use nukes.

As for NATO not expanding eastwards, that was never promised. The only thing promised was not to include eastern Germany, a promise kept. Why were the countries bordering Russia so eager to join NATO? Do you think it is because they know Russian expansionism and they don’t want to be part of it? And that includes even the ethnic Russians living in those countries? Think about it.

    • My daughter in the Air Force says they do PT one day a month!

My Marine son does PT daily.

I tell her that is absolutely frightening!!

  • Yes, Ukraine will join NATO, officially or not.
Putin will respond with tactical nukes.
    NATO will respond likewise.

It might stop there, but I doubt it. Once the first nuke is used the psychological resistance of using them will no longer apply for most countries. It will then be: “If that country can use them, so can we, with no guilty conscience.”

    Just my opinion.

  • https://nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap/ Here’s a nuke map. type in your area and see if you’ll be in direct hit. My area says pretty bad from the Tsar Bomba from Russia. Says most of us will die within a month due to radiation. Didn’t give me the calculation for casualties because it said the site timed out due to too many people on there right now. Not sure how accurate this is. I have potassium iodide but not sure I have enough bottles. My concern is now water, if I survive. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
P.S. Yes I think money laundering Ukraine joining NATO will cause WWIII.

  • Having read and experienced the construct of our world that we are currently enduring, I find that this topic is now irrelevant. The coming catastrophe is baked into the cake. How do I come to such conclusion? The myriad of insane stories/propaganda being foisted upon the worldwide public 24/7, assisted by lies, deceit, subterfuge from those powers that be and their evil. The corruption is endemic everywhere and it encompasses not only the financial realm, but that of human ethics and morality. We are not unlike experiments with rodents confined to a space that morphs into degeneracy and decline in the end. We are going to crash and burn, plain and simple. What arises from the ashes will be a new beginning created by the survivors. It has occurred throughout through the millennia, and will begin anew soon.
War does not determine who is right, only who is left…and history is usually written by the victors. Prepare seriously for the coming maelstrom, for it will soon be upon us. And pray that you and all those you care for are writing the new chapter of our Phoenix rising. Live your best life knowing that you will constitute the foundational soil of future mankind.

Stoltenberg seems to be talking out of both sides of his mouth. The only one willing to send troops to U is Macron, fortunately no one else.

The revelation of deep CIA involvement in Ukraine means that Putin was justified in invading Ukraine. Most people are tired of it. Russia is clearly winning massively. Why drag it out any longer? I’ll bet surviving Ukrainians will be the happiest of all once Ukraine surrenders.

  • Do you think Ukraine will join NATO? No, Russia would never allow it. One of the reasons why Russia went into Ukraine was to protect itself from NATO.

    • Al, the peoples of eastern Europe believe Putin too, when he threatens to invade to put the peoples back under Soviet communist slavery. That’s why they’re preparing for war.

      • Putin, a pure communist revolutionary is supposedly still ticked off that he was abandoned in East Germany and plots a decades long strategy to take over Europe and invade Alaska while the Chinese who depend on the global landfill economy and are in the middle of a major real estate collapse in the works plan on invading the US mainland after Taiwan.

I don’t see any rhyme or reason why the resource rich (minerals & fossil fuels) State Capitalists ie. Russians or Chinese need to invade the continental US since the WEF, International Banks, MIC and Biosecurity apparatus are making loads of money, shifting demographics and generating valuable data from social engineering while applying soft power and managed De-growth to drain Western debt-based economies especially the EU and other dependent “land export” economies. Stalin promised that nary a shot will be fire and Pavlov is still rolling in his grave.

  • I’m impressed that you are able to check all MSM for stories on any topic. There has been news on it but temper tantrums over the border, the budget, lying witnesses, and the former, emphasis on former president, are a better lede. As is the weather truth be told. What I haven’t seen is what the Saudis are up to re: Israel’s deja vu of the the late 30s/40s.

    • Care to comment on the illegal who beat a nursing student to death?
How about suspects in a recent DC shooting where a 2 year old boy was killed in the cross fire? The Montgomery County, Md. who had arrested the illegal twice, and twice ignored the ICE detainer the illegal?
Speaking of lying, how about lying on ATF form 4473? Federal offense.
How about a current president who in a two minute pre-recorded video had 30 edits?
Do you have any opinion on the possibility of WWIII? That the draft could be reinstated as suggested by the Army War College? Your children or grand children could get drafted and sent to war? For what?

      • World War III has already started. It was planned several years ago. Putin started it with his invasion of Crimea and eastern Ukraine in 2014.

We think of World War II having started in 1941. In reality, it started in 1931 with the Japanese invasion of Manchuria. It expanded with the Italian invasion of Ethiopia in 1935. So likewise, World War III started with the Soviet invasion of Ukraine in 2014. I expect World War III will reach its climax on our shores either this year or next, my money is on this year. Then comes the rebuilding.

    • “If Ukraine falls, I really believe that NATO will be in a fight with Russia,”
–Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, 27FEB24

“Everything that they are coming up with now, with which they threaten the entire world – all this really threatens a conflict with the use of nuclear weapons, and therefore the destruction of civilization – don’t they understand this, or what?”
      — Russian President Putin, 29FEB24

      • Do you really believe Putin?

The plans for the war against the U.S. were drawn up decades ago. They have been revisited and updated since then. Originally it was supposed to have been Russian troops in the Lower 48, latest revision they will be Chinese. Russians will still take Alaska.

Putin is a lying communist, evidence that the “collapse of the Soviet Union” in 1991 was just a ruse. The plan at that time was to pretend weakness, while building up strength for the attack. Meanwhile some of the countries that were under Soviet slavery have gone off the reservation. Some, like Poland and the Baltic States, have even joined NATO. The present war was started by Putin in 2014 when Ukraine went off the reservation.

Whether or not civilization will be destroyed, as Putin claims, depends on who survives this war (surviving is winning). I hope to survive, so part of my preps are tools to help rebuild.

  • I am no expert in this area, so I would need to do a lot more research to feel confident in my opinion. However, at this point, I have a few observations. My opinion could change.

I have known several people who have lived in Russia. None of them think Putin is this nice guy and they believe everything he says. To me, it says a lot that the nations that USED to be in the old Soviet bloc no longer want to return. Dissidents who leave Russia (or who stay there and continue protesting) end up with Sudden Death Syndrome. I don’t think all of them were CIA spies, as is the claim for Navalny. Putin was a member of the old KGB (as I understand it). People who disagree with him, die. Enough said.

I am sure corruption is rife in Ukraine because it was common in the old Soviet Union, and they just transported their business practices when they split off. Yes, we are also corrupt here in the US and continue meddling around the world. This doesn’t mean we should run the other direction and buy into Russia propaganda. I believe it is Finland that has put training about propaganda into its school curriculum because they have seen it in action, specifically from Russia. A YouTuber named laowhy says China is pretty good at it, too. (You would have to watch him to see if you think he is credible.)

IMO Russia will not need to use nuclear weapons. Between them and China, they can do plenty of damage with cyber attacks. If you bring down our electrical system, EVERYTHING goes down. Finance, transportation, medical, etc.
As I understand it, we are equal in capability in the cyber warfare arena. The US does not have an advantage.

If China wants to attack Taiwan, they could team up with Russia and both attack us together–in the same event. Add in North Korea’s loose cannon or Iran (just to add in some chaos), and then all bets are off. I do wish someone would warn the American people to be a little bit prepared. Or maybe they really DO want thousands to die…

Hope this is just crazy thinking. However, it is one reason I moved from Houston (large city) to rural Tennessee. Although we have nuclear power stations, so we could have our own set of problems. Sadly, nowhere is truly safe.

  • It’s not much of a poke in the eye. It’s like a normie poking a UFC champ on the shoulder and daring him to fight. The RF forces have two years of actual “in the shit” combat experience against a near-peer force, while the most NATO has is two decades of living in safe-compounds in hostile territory while occasionally venturing out in heavily armed convoys to show the locals in their shitty liitle countries who’s the boss.

If you haven’t noticed, most of NATO has run out of sufficient munitions to wage a defensive war, much less an offensive one, its only advantage is its ISR, which can be blinded at short notice (the only reason the Russians haven’t done it already is it would quickly be reciprocated), and the Air Defence advantage is totally on the side of the Russians in theatre.

BTW, it violates the NATO charter to induct a country with an ongoing border dispute precisely because it can immediately trigger Article Five, but even then, Article Five does not bind members to making an actual armed response. It’s a hollow gesture at best, but one that at worst result in Khinzhals raining down on Western staging points in places that the Western powers will quickly decide to hang out to dry. The point of allowing European NATO to disarm itself for Ukraine was to allow the US to profit from the re-arming during a new cold war, not from a desperate scramble to attempt to re-arm them in the midst of a hot war that might spill ugily over to Fortress America.

  • This is a lot like the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 when Khrushchev tried to place nuclear weapons in Cuba, 90 miles from Florida. We are trying to place nuclear weapons on Russia’s border. Regardless of what anyone thinks of Putin, he is right in objecting to NATO doing that. This is an act of war and we have no national interests in Ukraine.
