    1. I like the Lifestraw brand for the straw type filters and the Sawyer Mini for the other type of personal filter. 🙂

    2. the Grayl water filters are not cheap but they are the easist to use and the best filters on the market today IMO. i also keep the sawers on me, they fit easily into my pocket.
      i have used them both and love and trust em.
      the lifestraw’s work well i’m sure, it’s just the idea of having to put my face onto an unknown water source that troubles me, you know-snakes, gaters and such. that and not being able to transfer the water into another container.
