As I wrote The Flat Broke Cookbook, the US is heading into the second month of a government shutdown. The politics of this truly don’t matter because the book is not political.

What matters is the fact that 800,000 government employees are working without a paycheck and 38 million Americans who get assistance to buy food may not be getting that money if this continues. This doesn’t include the trickledown effect if this continues.

And this is just one incident. Everyone should know how to buy food inexpensively, make tasty meals with it by cooking from scratch, and stretch the food as far as possible.

That’s why I’m offering this book for $5.49 if you would like to purchase it (click here to buy) and absolutely free if you are going through hard times right now.  Read to the end to learn how to get it for free.

Anyone can become flat broke

There are many things that can happen which leave us without the ability to spend our usual grocery budget. A loss of income, a huge medical bill, a massive home repair, a car squatting in the middle of the road and refusing to budge…the list of craptastic things that can eat away at your emergency fund, rack up your credit card bills, and put you in the category of “flat broke” is long and illustrious.

I know because it’s happened to me multiple times. As a new mom, my husband lost his job. As a single mom later, I got laid off with 2 kids and a mortgage. After my dad passed away, I lost everything – my house, my car, my job. Heck, just last year, both my daughter and I had expensive illnesses and required thousands of dollars out of pocket, which meant I emptied my emergency fund and maxed out my credit cards.

The point is, it can happen to any of us. No matter how comfortable we are today, tomorrow everything could change and any of us could be flat broke.

But a lack of money doesn’t mean that you don’t still need to eat.

What The Flat Broke Cookbook is about

The Flat Broke Cookbook is about shopping for food with limited funds and still feeding your family tasty and nutritious meals. It assumes you have a bit of money to spend, but not a lot. At the same time, you might be living off the supplies in your pantry or freezer for similar reasons.

These recipes are not for folks counting grams of carbohydrates or for people who will eat nothing but organic food straight from the farmer’s market.  (Although, you can opt for organic versions of all the food mentioned if you’re not in a bind financially.) I mean, we all want to eat that way, but we can’t always afford it. Tough times call for tough measures.

These recipes are simple, filling scratch-cooking to keep you nourished when times are tough. There are also instructions for the scratch cooking of some foods you may not regularly use. Don’t worry if you don’t usually cook from scratch – I walk you through everything, step-by-step and I’m not going to ask you to make a Julia-Child-style-souffle that you caramelize with a blowtorch. You won’t need any fancy equipment or outrageous ingredients.

  • Love your site and the messages you offer to people, I’ve followed you on the net for about 3 years now and the information is 1st class. Like a lot of people in the US and worldwide We to here in the UK are suffering at the hands of tyrannical government that won’t even budge on our people’s choice of leaving the EU. We voted over 2 years ago and still faced with vast hardships that are without doubt brought about by the sickness that is modern governments. Homelessness and food banks whilst the rich as ever squander vast resources and live in the lap of luxury off the backs of the People.

Ministers and MP’s etc pay little or no tax and May’s government enriches itself while it makes sure the bankers and the huge corporations pay nothing. Seems our world is going down the tubes in a hand basket because of the corruptions of the so called privileged few.
