(1/30/2020) The World Health Organization has finally declared a global emergency over the spread of the coronavirus that originated in Wuhan, China.

At the time of publication, the coronavirus has infected people in 18 countries:

  • Australia – 7
  • Cambodia – 1
  • Canada – 3
  • China – 7711
  • France – 5
  • Finland – 1
  • Germany – 4
  • India – 1
  • Japan – 11
  • Malaysia – 8
  • Nepal – 1
  • Philippines – 1
  • Singapore – 10
  • South Korea – 6
  • Sri Lanka – 1
  • Taiwan – 8
  • Thailand – 14
  • United States of America – 6
  • United Arab Emirates – 4
  • Vietnam – 4

It’s important to note that many believe the numbers coming from China are inaccurate.

The AP reports:

Experts say there is significant evidence the virus is spreading among people in China and have noted with concern instances in other countries — including the United States, France, Japan, Germany, Canada and Vietnam — where there have also been isolated cases of human-to-human transmission.

Speaking to reporters in Geneva, WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus noted the worrisome spread of the virus between people outside China.

The main reason for this declaration is not because of what is happening in China but because of what is happening in other countries, he said. “”Our greatest concern is the potential for this virus to spread to countries with weaker health systems which are ill-prepared to deal with it.”

“This declaration is not a vote of non-confidence in China…on the contrary, WHO continues to have the confidence in China’s capacity to control the outbreak,” he said.

On Thursday, France confirmed that a doctor who was in contact with a patient with the new virus later became infected himself. The doctor is now being treated in an isolated room at a Paris hospital. Outbreak specialists worry that the spread of new viruses from patients to health workers can signal the virus is becoming adapted to human transmission.

A declaration of a global emergency typically brings greater money and resources, but may also prompt nervous governments to restrict travel and trade to affected countries. The announcement also imposes more disease reporting requirements on countries. (source)

The global emergency declaration could come with greater travel restrictions, more extensive disease reporting requirements, and more money and resources contributed to the fight.

You should get prepared just in case the situation continues to devolve.

While the declaration should serve as a warning to get prepared just in case, it’s important to note that other declarations have not resulted in an epic disaster.

The last time WHO declared a global health emergency was in 2019 for the Ebola outbreak in eastern Congo that killed more than 2,000 people. The agency also declared global emergencies for the 2016 Zika virus, the 2009 H1N1 swine flu, and the 2014 polio and Ebola outbreaks. (source)

This is not to say that the current outbreak isn’t serious – it is – but it’s still possible that the world’s medical community will get things under control before havoc is wrought outside of the hot zone. Meanwhile, it’s important to understand how the virus spreads, to learn about personal protection equipment, and to fill in any gaps in your preps.

Why did the WHO declare an emergency?

Last week, the World Health Organization declined to declare an emergency. So what changed?

One of the criteria used to determine whether the coronavirus is an international health threat is whether the disease spreads locally once it arrives in new parts of the world, “and that’s a nuanced and important distinction to make,” Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of the WHO’s health emergencies program, told reporters on a call last week.

The other main criteria is whether it’s already interfered or will likely interfere with trade and travel, he said. The WHO committee’s goal, he said, is to contain an outbreak without needlessly disrupting economic activity just by declaring a global health crisis. (source)

This is your early warning.

If you don’t take this opportunity to get prepped, you may find that supplies are no longer available – or if they are, prices could increase dramatically – if the situation worsens here at home.

Lawrence Gostin, a professor and faculty director of the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law at Georgetown University, said. “It signals that the world must be on the alert for a major event.” (source)

As scary as a lot of people find this situation, I urge you not to panic. Here are all of our resources to help you get better prepared.

Panic is the enemy of preparedness. Focus on what you need to add to your stockpile and plan how you intend to handle it if the pandemic continues to multiply.

  • Excellent article, as always, Daisy. I think it is super important to act locally, and think globally. Yes, every single one of us is personally responsible for protecting our health where we can…use mosquito repellent, wash hands, have food and water stored, etc. This may not come right to my or your town, but it is a siren blasting to stay conscious, cautious, and prepared

  • Coronavirus: A Contrived Pandemic? Caused By A Gene Mutation Or By A Meteorological Phenomenon?

“In October of 2019 a researcher at Johns-Hopkins Center for Health Security predicted 65 million people could die of coronavirus worldwide within 18 months under the right circumstances.

By December 31, China was reporting its first case of a mutated coronavirus infection. It took only one day for the US Centers for Disease Control to identify a seafood market in Wuhan, China as the epicenter of the outbreak.

A Reuters news report claims the newly mutated coronavirus wasn’t identified until January 10 and hospitals in Wuhan didn’t have testing kits till January 20, with testing prior that date taking 3-5 days because they had to be sent to a laboratory in Beijing. So how did the CDC all the way in the U.S. so quickly identify Wuhan as the hub of a coronavirus outbreak?

Of interest, Wuhan is the location for China’s Institute of Virology. Authorities are calling this a coincidence.

One wonders if the current epidemic isn’t actually a contrived and pre-planned reality drill to see how the world would handle such a pandemic? All the usual suspects participated in the drill planning, pharmaceutical company executives, the World Bank, public health authorities, news media execs, and representatives for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Why did the Johns-Hopkins doctor pick a mutated coronaviral pandemic instead of some other virus?”

    • “One wonders if the current epidemic isn’t a contrived pre-planned drill to see how the world handles such a pandemic.”

This line of thinking borders on insanity. This isn’t a drill. This is life and death.

The virus is growing exponentially. If this trajectory is not broken: In February there will be 250,000 cases, by May 147 million.

A few days ago a nurse in Wuhan said the actual figures of those infected is almost 90,000 not the 1,975 reported by the government.

Russia has closed the border to China and is no longer issuing visas to the Chinese. Putin knows how to protect his people.

      Trump does NOTHING.

And finally: The WHO is a corrupt joke. The second largest contributor to the WHO is China. If you look at a picture of the Director of the WHO you can easily tell he is an affirmative action hire.

        • Debra said: “Must we make everything little thing political?”

Every “little thing”. Surely you are joking.

.The Chinese have quarantined 50 million people. I guess you just don’t get it.

  • What happened to all the protests in China? Do they continue, or did they suddenly get shut down? Kind of convenient, not that any communist government would ever harm their own people to gain control.

And gee, wouldn’t a pandemic be just the perfect scapegoat to force global commerce to come to a screeching halt, and get the everything money bubble to finally pop, letting all the banksters off the hook to claim there was never anything wrong with their policies, it was that darn coronavirus that caused the new great recession.

    • Indeed. The CDC reports 80,000 U.S. deaths from influenza and related complications from 2017-18 alone. That was an unusually bad year – but no panic. The preliminary U.S. deaths from 2018-19 is 35,157, a little above the yearly estimate over time of 30,000 deaths per year.

      https://www.statnews.com/2018/09/26/cdc-us-flu-deaths-winter/

There’s a broad variation in estimated deaths from year to year. Final tally of 2011-12 estimated U.S. deaths was just 12,000.

      https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/index.html

Worldwide, 646,000 people may die every year on average from the flu. That’s just the average; some years are worse than others.

      https://www.pbs.org/newshour/health/cdc-says-more-people-die-of-influenza-worldwide-than-who-estimated

… So, if you weren’t prepping for the flu in non-pandemic times… why panic now?

Take the low casualty 2011-12 year (12,000 deaths). China has 3x-4x the population of the U.S.. In the ‘good’ flu year mentioned, assuming China’s health system is as good as the U.S. (NOT) that translates into 3x-4x the casualties. China would have had 36,000 – 48,000 influenza related deaths in 2011-12.

Assuming that the Chinese are catching and dying from regular flu viruses, but can’t – or won’t – be told by authorities the difference from n-Corona virus, the illusion of a deadly epidemic with a coverup is created.

So… millions of people catch a cold from existing flu viruses; some die. Lets panic over a statistically small number who get a new strain… which also happens every year. Cold viruses are constantly mutating into new forms. Then pretend there’s a massive n-Coronavirus epidemic.

The Health Ranger, Mike Adams, reports that n-Coronavirus can be transmitted through exposed eyeballs; n-95 masks are useless.

      https://www.naturalnews.com/2020-01-26-n95-masks-useless-coronavirus-enters-body-through-eyeballs-warns-infected-doctor-in-wuhan.html

However, viral transmission of the flu through the eyes does happen anyway. Even as children we are warned not to rub our eyes with dirty hands. Most of us did so and generally got away with it. A droplet-borne flu virus is little different.

If n-Corona virus hits North America… well, most readers are into natural health and remedies and prevention within the context of everyday living. As Selco seems to point out in an earlier article – fear the system of hype and panic and pretext for tyranny, not the virus.

Fear disaster capitalism, where your pain is someone else’s profit.

      • “N 95 masks are useless.”

Stop spreading such dangerous misinformation. People will get sick and die because of these types of lies.

I have said repeatedly to Use N 95 mask WITH goggles.

        “Why panic now?”

Because people just do not grasp the severity of this situation. This is NOT a typical flu virus.

In all probability this virus is a weaponized bat sars virus which was produced in the Level 4 bio lab in Wuhan, and it escaped due to lax protocol. The Chinese are notorious for cutting corners.

The Chinese government does not quarantine over 50 million people because of flu.

Can you even comprehend the magnitude of what I am saying?

This would be comparable to the quarantining of the following US cities: NY, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas/FW, LA, Seattle, and SF, all at the same time.

  • Mike Adams on Naturalnews.com says the WHO has now declared the coronavirus a pandemic. I can’t find that info anywhere else. Has he jumped the gun or am I looking in the wrong places?

  • Calm logic from Jon Rappoport, perhaps check out his archive about all this to avoid finding yourself on the Church of Biological Mysticism bandwagon clamoring for world domination and lockdown like some others, “As my readers know, I’ve challenged the authenticity of this “epidemic” in several key ways. You can read my prior articles to understand my approach (archive here), and my investigation of past fake epidemics that were duds.

There are presently two major operations going on. One is the lockdown of populations. The other is the coming vaccine. I’ve already written about one experimental vaccine that could be rushed into production in 90 days. It has tremendous potential dangers. And it could be mandated for everyone, or everyone in certain areas.

The present glorification of the Chinese regime isn’t good news. Far from it.” …

    • “Jon Rappaport.”

Lol. Escape from the Matrix guy.

Listen up. There is a modeling study out of China today that says the Wuhan virus has an R 0 factor of 4.

Do you have any idea what that means?

Do you know the recovery rate is equal to the death rate.

That means if you catch the Wuhan virus you have a 50% chance of dying.

If you get viral pneumonia that accompanies the infection, it leaves the patient with fibrosis in the lungs.
